Dear Basement Community,
I have been performing hydrodynamic and morphodynamical simulations. The river section contains a bypass tunnel, which I want to simulate as well. When I run the simulation without considering this bypass, the model runs smoothly. However, when I include the bypass tunnel with a linked boundary, it shows a MASS BALANCE PROBLEM, and the simulation gets stuck and becomes unresponsive after running for a certain percentage.
I used two stringdefs at inlet and outlet of the bypass and, I am using hq relation that was calculated at the u/s side of the bypass tunnel. Also, I shifted the linked boundary at different places and tried different hq relation, the progress changes little bit but the mass balance problem still exists, and the BASEMENT becomes unresponsive. What could be the reason behind it??

Hi,
I am not sure what the reason is for the mass balance errors, but does the simulation also crash if you use the parameter 'safe_mode' with 'off' in the HYDRAULICS/PARAMETER block?
Best regards,
Matthias

Hi matthias,
The problem still exist with the safe_mode parameter off.
However, I tried to introduce the small strip of hole in both the linked boundary and the model runs after that. What could be the reason for the mass balance problem before?
Thank you

Hi Sakeyy,
So the simulation crashes with safe_mode off or do you just get mass balance errors without crash? I cannot guess where the mass balance problems originate without further info on the simulation setup.
Best regards,
Matthias
