Dear qtheiler
in order to use GPU computing, does one have to have some special hardware installed ?

GPU computing with BASEMENT v3pre is only possible under Linux environments.
A CUDA-enabled GPU and the necessary driver are required. For CUDA-enabled GPUs visit https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-gpus.
Further, in the section "Introduction & Installation" of the BASEMENT Manual you can find different GPUs that have been tested with BASEMENT v3pre. The results from Benchmark test cases can be found in the Section "Tutorials".

Dear Mathias
Thank you for your kind response. Is there any prospect of Base 3 being made available to users under windows in near future?

Dear Sajjad
The release of BASEMENT v3 under Windows is planned for this year. However, the the computation on GPUs will remain limited to Linux systems only.
It is already now possible to use the version 3pre on Windows systems with the work-arounds explained in the Manual (using Docker or Windows Subsystem for Linux; also without GPU computation).
Best regards
Matthias
