Hi,
I’m applying the Smart and Jaggi’s formula into my simulations. The authors find a formula to calculate theta critical (see System Manuals, page 43) . This formula takes in account the influence of local bed slope.
Basement already considers the influence of local slope on incipient motion, by the use of correction factors, van Rijn i.e. .
If I use the Smart and Jaggi’s formula should I turn off the correction factor proposed by van Rijn or Chen to avoid taking into account the same correction twice?
Thanks for helping

Hi Marco
Yes, in principle you are right to use 'no_local_slope' for Smart and Jaggi’s formula.
However, we recommend this formula only for 1-D simulations.
The reason is that this formula depends on bed slope in its original form, which can lead to problems in 2-D simulations.
In 1-D simulations, there is the possibility to use the energy slope (use_energy_slope=on), in 2-D not yet.
Hope this helps!
Best, Lukas
