			<description><![CDATA[<p>Dear Maxim,</p><p>I was not able to reproduce the error in the GUI on Ubuntu 22.04 with BASEMENT v4.2.0. Could you post a screenshot of the GUI with the error message?</p><p>What I find strange is that you see the STDOUT and STDERR tags in the GUI, those should not be displayed. </p><p>The BASEHPC specific executables (e.g. BMv4_BASEHPC_*) require the -f flag. Only the executables BMv4_setup, BMv4_simulation and BMv4_results require the input filenames as direct command line argumenets without any flags. Those can be used for both BASEHPC and BASEMD simulations.</p><p>Best regards,<br />Matthias</p>]]></description>

			<title><![CDATA[Modelling of bridges with hq-relation]]></title>

			<description><![CDATA[<p>Hello,</p><p>I am using Basement v2.8.2 to carry out hydraulic analyses on a stream with a trapezoidal cross-section. I am currently trying to integrate a bridge into my model. For this purpose, I have cut out the area of the bridge from my existing mesh and defined StringDefs at the upper and lower edge of the cutout over the entire width of the watercourse. The bridge is to be derived later using an hq-relation derived from the bridge geometry. I am currently using an hq-relation that I obtained from a reference simulation without bridges. The results of the reference simulation and the hq-relation should therefore be similar. Unfortunately, this is not the case. I always get the following message as soon as the water level rises and new elements along the embankments get wet:</p><p>WARNING -&gt; Mass conservation is not guaranteed! Negative water depth in element <br />&#160; &#160;#27812 (slope = 0.705888).<br />&#160; &#160;&#160; &#160; missing volume to compensate the overdraft: 0.00276294</p><p>The problem does not occur if I define the stringdef only via the channel bottom, but this changes the simulation results significantly compared to the reference simulation.</p><p>I have already increased the minumum_water_depth from 0.05 to 0.1 (Hydraulics - Parameters), which has reduced the number of messages, but has not solved the problem.</p><p>Do you have any tips on what I need to change to correct the error? </p><p>Thank you very much!</p>]]></description>

			<title><![CDATA[Model outflow sink vs. stringdef]]></title>

			<description><![CDATA[<p>We have conducted some test simulations (some with, some without precipitation) with BASEMENT v4 where we tried to evaluate the influence of different methods to remove water from a simulation. The “regular” way seems to create a StringDefinition i.e. uniform_out. However, especially with precipitation activated, we found “sinks” to work very well. We created a narrow area of elements around the initial model boundary and then defined it as a sink (sinks as elements with an assigned low elevation). It abstracts water if it leaves the area of interest. The model boundary needs to be set with care, as water cannot re-enter at the sides. We also found this method to be working fine with larger flows (i. e. rivers with flows &gt; 100 m³/s) and it seems to be a little easier to implement, as no slope needs to be set . We could not find significant differences in the results, the WSE and velocity only differs marginally. So far the only downside we found is that if the “boundary sink” is assigned a single MatID, the outflow cannot be monitored quantitatively. This leads us to our question:</p><p>Are there significant (technical) drawbacks of using sinks over string definitions (i. e. uniform out) to abduct water from the model other than “missing” the possibility of a measured output?</p>]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[<p>Hello,</p><p>I have a problem with Crayfish v3.6.0 (on QGIS v3.28.7) : when I want to plot cross-sections, the &quot;From map&quot; feature works fine but the &quot;From layer&quot; feature does not recognize any available polyline layer (so when I click I don&#039;t get the drop-down list proposing the line layers), even tough I do have one with the CS, which is checked and visible on the map.<br />I tried to use Crayfish in another QGIS version and had the same problem.<br />However, when I select &quot;Plot: Time series&quot;, Crayfish still does not recognize any polyline layer but does recognize point layers (the drop-down list appears for points).<br />Does anyone have the same problem with Crayfish ? Is it a problem with my polyline layers ? They are just standard polyline layers, which I was able to include in the BM mesh so I don&#039;t see what could be wrong.</p><p>Thanks in advance.</p>]]></description>

I do as follows</p><ul><li><p>double click on the layer</p></li><li><p>click on symbology</p></li><li><p>select the &#039;simple red line style&#039; from the ones suggested</p></li><li><p>click on the &#039;+&#039; in the upper right corner</p></li><li><p>under &#039;Symbol layer type&#039; select &#039;marker line&#039;</p></li><li><p>select the &#039;Simple marker&#039; (should be a red dot)</p></li><li><p>at the bottom select the triangle from the first line of suggested symbols</p></li><li><p>insert 90° as value under &#039;Rotation&#039;</p></li><li><p>click &#039;apply</p></li></ul><p>Now you have a line with triangles pointed in the direction of the line-digitalization. If you imagine yourself walking on that line in the direction pointed by the triangles, you will know whether upstream is right or left!</p>]]></description>
